We are happy to announce Jay Manning’s appointment to the Board of Trustees at Eastern Washington University. Gov. Inslee made the appointment effective November 20, 2015. The Board of Trustees is the highest policymaking body for the University, working closely with the University President, the administration, the faculty, and students on fiscal, policy and management issues.
Jay is a graduate of EWU and was, like many current Eastern students, a “first generation” college student — the first in his family to attend and graduate college. “I’ve already attended my first Board meeting,” Jay said, “and it was fascinating. We covered issues ranging from moving from quarters to semesters, the great success of Eastern’s College of Health Sciences (100% passage of various licensing tests and 100% job placement for the last 3 years), keeping tuition costs as low as possible while still balancing the budget, and even meeting Cooper Kupp, Eastern’s NFL-bound wide receiver from the Eagles' amazingly successful football team.”
Jay plans to focus on continuing Eastern’s progress in attracting and supporting first generation students, students from disadvantaged communities and helping to increase the success of Eastern’s “Olympic sports.” Jay also will assist with the funding and construction of the Natural & Environmental Science Testing and Teaching Center (the “NESTT”), which will be one of the first “living buildings” on a university campus in the country.
